Dr. Kavita Babu is currently working as an Associate Professor and Wellcome Trust -DBT India Alliance Senior Fellow at the Centre For Neuroscience, Indian Institute Of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India. She is also on lien from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali.

She was a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Molecular Biology, Massachusetts General Hospital, USA.

She obtained her doctorate in developmental and cell biology from the National University of Singapore.

Dr. Kavita Babu's laboratory is currently studying the signaling role of cell adhesion molecules at neuromuscular synapses in the free-living nematode, Caenorhabditis elegans. Her laboratory is also interested in understanding how neurons communicate with each other using neuropeptides and how these neuropeptide-based circuits allow Caenorhabditis elegans to modulate locomotion under different conditions.
 

She is a recipient of several awards such as:

  • BK Bachhawat Travel award in 2020.
  • Wellcome Trust -DBT India Alliance Senior Fellowship grant in 2020.
  • DBT Janaki Ammal National Woman Scientist Award, young category in 2020.
  • Wellcome Trust -DBT India Alliance Intermediate Fellowship grant in 2012.
  • DBT- Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award (IYBA) grant in 2012.
     

Second Session: Stem Cell Therapy for Translational Neurology

Dr. Syed Shadab Raza, Ph.D., FRSB

Dr. Syed Shadab Raza is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in Era’s Lucknow Medical College & Hospital. He is also serving as an Assistant Dean for Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences in Era University and Co-ordinator for Ph.D. Programme in Era University.

Dr. Raza’s lab looks after the cues regulating the underlying fate of stem cells, after transplant, in an ischemic brain. His lab employs nano therapeutics, genetic manipulation to enhance the survival of the transplanted cells.

Dr. Syed Shadab Raza is also a Visiting Scientist in American University of Barbados in Latin America. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the University of Utah in USA and in Cleveland Clinic, USA. He was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the University of Adelaide in Australia and he was also a Young Investigator in the University of Ferrara in Italy. He worked as a Research Assistant in Max Delbruck Centre for Molecular Medicine in Germany and in the University of Griefswald in Germany as well.
Dr. Syed Shadab Raza obtained his doctorate in Ph.D. in Toxicology from Hamdard University in India.
He obtained his masters in M.Sc. Toxicology from Hamdard University, India.

He has a Google Scholar Citations of 1534 and Google Scholar h-index of 17.

He is the recipient of several awards such as 

  • Fellow of The Royal Society of Biology (United Kingdom) in 2020
  • A Lifetime Member of The National Academy of Science India (NASI)
  • Indian Academy of Biomedical Science 2019 – Mrs. Abida Mahdi Neuroscience Award
  • Council for Scientific and Industrial Research-Senior Res. Fellowship in 2012
  • IBRO-APRC Exchange Fellowship to Australia for Dental Pulp Stem Cells therapy in stroke recovery in 2011.
  • Jamia Hamdard - University Merit Award (Gold Medal) in 2011
  • EU-Marie Curie Action Fellowship to attain Stem Cell School, Czech Republic in 2009
