The webinar presentation will have three sessions.

First Session: Phytotherapy in Diabetes- Facts and Threats in Respect of Fenugreek

Associate Professor in Zoology
City College, University of Calcutta
Kolkata, India

Dr. Supriti Sarkar is presently working as a Associate Professor in the department of Zoology in City College at Calcutta University, Kolkata and also teaches post graduate endocrinology in the Midnapur Autonomous College, West Bengal. 

Dr. Supriti Sarkar has obtained her Post Doctorate from ICMR - National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED) in Molecular Endocrinology and did her PhD in Zoology on Reproductive endocrinology from Calcutta University . 

Dr. Supriti Sarkar has passed out her Masters in MSc Zoology with University rank from University of Calcutta. 

She has carried out CSIR, UGC, DST Research projects, and now carrying West Bengal Biodiversity Boards project. 

She has more than 25 International and National research papers, wrote three text books for graduate students and many research articles. She has also Presented her research works in International conferences too. Also engaged with editorial and reviewer works in few journals of esteemed publishers like Elsevier, Wiley online, Springer etc. Her current research interest is on effects of Fenugreek on diabetes. She is passionate about bird nesting, so, she is also studying how industrialization affects birds nesting. 
 

Second Session: Recombinant Protein Production and Purification in Yeast Systems

Second Session starts at 11:30AM and is expected to be over by 12:15PM.

Dr. Sindhu V. is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology in PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India.

She obtained her PhD in Biotechnology in an area of Recombinant Protein Production and Purification from Anna University, Chennai. And she has also obtained her M.Tech in Biopharmaceutical Technology from Anna University, Chennai qualifying Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) examination.

Dr. Sindhu V. is an expert in Genetic Engineering techniques like Microbial Culturing, Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic gene Transformation, PCR, RT- PCR, SDS- PAGE, Western Blotting & Recombinant Protein Production and Purification Techniques, Statistical Software like Design Expert, Down Stream processing techniques like Ammonium Sulphate precipitation, Dialysis, Ultra Filtration and Microfiltration, and, Ion exchange & Affinity Chromatography. She is Competence in handling of Instruments viz, Bioreactor, HPLC, Lyophilizer, UV Spectrophotometer, Gel Documentation System, Sonicator, Rotary Vacuum Evaporator.

Her research interest falls on Value Enhancement of Agricultural Residues, Enzyme Engineering and Technology, Genetic Engineering and Recombinant Products.

Dr. Sindhu V. is a recipient of Achiever Award 2012 and Achiever Award 2013 for VILLGRO IIT-M and PSG STEP students project funding & paper publication respectively at Bannari Amman Institute of Technology during her B.Tech.

 

Third Session: Genomics Approaches to Investigate Plant Structure and Function

National Institute of Plant Genomic Research (NIPGR)
New Delhi, India

Dr. Aashish Ranjan is currently a Scientist & Ramalingaswami Fellow at National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi.

He was Invited Guest Scientist in Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences at University of Cologne, Germany.

Dr. Aashish Ranjan had done his Post-Doctorate in Department of Plant Biology at University of California, Davis, USA.

He has obtained his PhD in Botany with specialisation in Developmental Biology, Genetics and Molecular Biology from International Graduate School in Genetics and Functional Genomics, University of Cologne, Germany.

He did his masters in MSc in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology & Biochemistry at National Research Center on Plant Biotechnology, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.

He did his bachelor's in BSc Agriculture with specialisation in Genetics & Plant Breeding, Plant Physiology and Plant Pathology at Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.

His research interest falls in Plant Developmental Biology, Environmental Signaling, Photosynthesis, Genomics. His current research interests are

  1. Optimizing plant developmental features for efficient photosynthesis in crop plants.
  2. Understanding the interaction between light and temperature signaling to regulate plant development and architecture.
